Overview

Insmed is seeking a skilled and creative biologist, virologist, or bioengineer to lead discovery and engineering campaigns focused on next-generation gene therapies for rare diseases. The successful candidate will operate within a cross-disciplinary team of experimental and computational scientists, taking primary responsibility for wet lab elements of programs. This is not a supervisory position This role oversees vendors and/or contractors

Responsibilities

Additional representative responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:
  • Lead biological engineering projects focused on development of next-generation viral vectors
  • Create and deploy high throughput cellular and molecular screening systems to identify novel capsids
  • Develop and implement quantitative in vitro cellular and molecular assays to characterize lead candidates
  • Assess candidates' pharmacological properties in vivo
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely records
  • Perform data analysis and review, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Participate in cross-disciplinary mentoring and training within the RDL NH team
  • Present results to the biologics team, Insmed research department, and external scientific community, as needed
  • Assist with coordination and day-to-day management of RDL NH site operations

Qualifications

  • PhD or MS with equivalent experience in cell biology, virology, molecular biology, bioengineering, or related field. Position level commensurate with experience.
  • Deep expertise with viruses or viral vectors required, experience with AAV vectors strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with viral vector engineering for gene therapy applications strongly preferred
  • Hands on experience with transfection, transduction, viral purification, ultracentrifugation, viral titering, qPCR, ddPCR required
  • Experience with molecular biology and recombinant DNA technology required, experience with viral vector library construction and production strongly preferred
  • Hands on experience with mammalian cell lines and primary cells required
  • Hands-on experience with flow cytometry, neutralization assays and other cell-based functional assays preferred
  • Hands-on in vivo model experience preferred, if no experience, must be open to learning
  • Proven track record in experimental methods development, including experimental design, execution, and data analysis and interpretation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Less than 5% travel required

Salary Range

Insmed takes into consideration a combination of candidate's education, training, and experience as well as the position's scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.

The base salary range for this job is from $89,000.00 to $119,267.00 per year
