Position Summary:

The Sr. Director, Corporate Communications is responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing a proactive and effective corporate communications strategy in support of the company's strategic goals globally in the West, including US, Canada, and Europe. The incumbent will function as a strategic partner and advisor to senior leadership, responsible for identifying and implementing integrated communications activities and solutions for the business. This role will oversee internal and external communication strategies, including media relations, employee communications, public relations, and government affairs activities.

Performance Objectives:
  • Lead the development and implementation of internal and external communications strategies and programs to support business growth, brand building, reputation management, and employee engagement.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Taiho Oncology, Inc., Taiho Pharmaceuticals, Co., Ltd., Otsuka Holdings Co., Ltd., Taiho Pharma Canada, Inc., Taiho Oncology Europe GmbH, and our strategic alliance partners.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including media, healthcare professionals, and patients.
  • Manage relationships with external communications vendors.
  • Select, develop, and evaluate internal talent to ensure efficient operation of the function and foster a culture of creativity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Adhere to compliance standards.
  • Build visibility, awareness, and understanding of the company, its strategy, and its mission among key stakeholders including employees, media, customers, healthcare providers, and patients.
  • Lead strategic public relations programs encompassing media relations, social media, thought leadership, and reputation management.
  • Work closely with the People team to develop and implement internal communications strategies targeted at engaging employees.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams, including product marketing, patient advocacy, Medical Affairs, R&D, Business Development & integration efforts, executive leadership, etc. to advance communications activities and ensure consistency in messaging.
  • Develop and edit corporate communications materials, including press releases, fact sheets, talking points, internal communications, slide decks, and other materials as needed.
  • Maintain and advance the digital channels including the corporate website, social media accounts, and contribute to the Taiho intranet.
  • Serve as a company spokesperson and respond as needed to media requests.
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry contacts to foster a positive image and brand for the organization within the industry and create unique PR opportunities.
  • Lead crisis communication response efforts, including proactive planning, rapid response, and effective management of issues.
  • Assist in the development, preparation, and production of company-wide town halls and other events.
  • Monitor the company's presence on the internet and in the media, as well as relevant industry and competitor news.
  • Stay on the forefront of communications, change management, technology, social and other key trends.
  • Monitor, evaluate, apply and report on the effectiveness of communication initiatives, utilizing insight-driven analytics and KPIs to inform strategic-decision making and optimize performance.

Education/Certification Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) in journalism, public relations, communications or English preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • 10 years or more in corporate communications or public relations, including in-house role at pharma or biotech company, or healthcare agency experience.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong writer who can draft press releases, speeches, talking points, statements, Q&A, etc.
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic, respect for deadlines and real-time communications.
  • Experience aligning corporate strategy across communications plans.
  • Ability to interface and partner effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • A positive attitude, flexibility, and a proactive approach.
  • Experience as a company/agency spokesperson preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple projects (timelines, budgets, priorities) simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint required.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $223,550 to $263,000 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
