With our extensive range of facilities and environments, our Engineers have opportunities across many diverse areas including Biological, Chemical, Automation, Capital Projects, Maintenance, Safety, Process Development, Technical Services, Utilities and Validation. -

West Point Technical Operations (WPTO) Laboratory organization is seeking highly motivated individuals to join their laboratory team supporting multi-product vaccine manufacturing processes. The Senior Specialist of Downstream Laboratory Process Support will be a laboratory-based role collaborating with Operations, Quality, and other support groups to meet targeted manufacturing and product projects, including product/process investigation, continuous improvement changes, and strategic product/process initiatives.

The subject position will be responsible for the following:
  • Lead/participate in the experimental design and execution of downstream experiments for large biomolecules such as recombinant protein and viruses.
  • Identifies and resolves technical and operational problems by applying root cause analysis, literature search, and experimentation methodologies.
  • Identifies process improvements or application of new approaches to streamline laboratory processes and improve overall efficiency.
  • Communicates data within WPTO and across organizations.
  • Collaborates with other scientists within WPTO, site manufacturing, commercialization, research, and other of our Company process support labs.
  • Authors technical documentations.
  • Opportunities to mentor and develop junior coworkers.

Education Minimum Requirement: --
  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry or comparable discipline, with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or M.S. with 4 years of relevant experience; or Ph.D. with 2 years of relevant experience

Required Experience and Skills:
  • Minimum 2 years of laboratory or manufacturing scale purification of recombinant protein, viruses, or other large biological molecules.
  • Expertise in lab-scale experimental execution and data analysis.
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical-based data analysis.
  • Experience authoring technical documentation.
  • Strong communicator with proven collaboration and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative work environment focused on mentorship, coaching, and Subject Matter Expert development.

Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • Experience with virus like particles (VLP) purification process.
  • Expertise with the AKTA chromatography and TFF operation.
  • Experience with Downstream process development in a laboratory setting.
  • Strong scientific understanding in analytical methods to characterize large molecules purification such as SDS-PAGE, HPLC, WES, CE etc.
  • Strong cross-functional background, enabling teams to reach peak performance.
  • Ability to provide scientific mentorship and guidance to technical coworkers and colleagues within and outside of the Company.
