Description
Position Summary: The Construction Project Engineer is responsible for oversight of construction projects from Start to Finish, by ensuring schedules, budget tracking, and action items are completed. This includes selecting vendors for specific portions of the project, such as painting, electrical, and plumbing. The Construction Project Engineer is responsible for overseeing contractors to ensure the work is performed in a quality and safe manner, as per specifications.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Provides leadership in initial planning stage of construction by collaborating with clients, engineers, or other involved parties, such as leadership or department heads
  • Develops detailed description of jobs and materials necessary to complete the construction project.
  • Schedules and coordinates projects in logical steps, allowing the necessary time to meet each deadline.
  • Prepares and submits budget estimates, Capital expenditure requests, and regularly communicates with leadership team concerning budget progress and costs of large capital projects
  • Plans, coordinates, organizes, oversees, and directs activities regarding the construction and maintenance of assigned structures, facilities, and systems.
  • Ensures safety standards and guidelines are followed on the jobsite and that all safety codes are met in construction.
  • Manages and leads actions that are necessary due to delays, bad weather, or emergencies at construction sites.
  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with a variety of people, including owners, managers, designers, supervisors, tradespersons, and craft workers.
  • Facilitate positive inter-departmental interaction and manages conflict between vendors, etc.
  • Participates in facility improvement initiatives
  • Presents to senior staff and executive leadership, as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Adequate interpersonal skills to liaise between departments and contractors
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Proficiency of Microsoft Project or similar project scheduling (Required)
  • Proficiency of Project Management /Construction Project Management software tools (such as Procore)
  • Ability to remain flexible in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work well under pressure, making quick rational decisions, especially with regards to unexpected delays, supply-chain issues, and scope change
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Excellent understanding of engineering and other construction drawings
  • Thorough understanding of contracts, specifications, and regulations, especially in a GMP
  • General pharmaceutical knowledge of aseptic manufacturing processes and packaging equipment, unit operations, process control systems, computer systems, equipment cleaning, sterility assurance, process, hazards, and safety, is a plus
  • Ability to work with others, understanding requirements of material receipt, manufacture, test and release as well as CGMP requirements for commercial production, is a plus
  • Ability to be a team player
  • Highly organized

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • B.S. Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Relevant Field, Required
  • 5-10+ years pharmaceutical industry experience, required (or similar relevant industry)
  • 8+ years' experience managing construction projects
  • PMP certification (preferred)
  • Thorough understanding of the pharmaceutical development cycle and the nomenclature associated with pharmaceutical development, including cGMP procedures and practices, is a plus.
  • May require travel to vendor facilities.
  • Must be available during normal business hours, as well as occasional non-business hours to address issues at the job site and delays/ emergencies
  • Must be able to lift up to 30lbs at a time
  • Must be able to inspect all areas of jobsite including walking, climbing, bending, reaching, or crawling
