The Discovery Analytical Research group within Analytical Enabling Capabilities (Analytical R&D) is seeking applicants for an Associate Principal Scientist position available at its South San Francisco, California research facility. The successful candidate will contribute to the efforts in enabling the discovery of new drug candidates including small molecules, biologics and other emerging modalities. Key deliverables will include the development, implementation, and execution of analytical measurement technologies that may accelerate the pace of discovery research and influence molecular design. The successful candidate must be able to collaborate in a dynamic, integrated, and multidisciplinary team environment. A broad range of tools (e.g. chromatography, electrophoresis, mass spectrometry, spectroscopy) are leveraged and new technologies are developed to influence selection of new drug candidates and enhance scalability and robustness.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge in the biopharmaceutical discovery and development fields, and proficiency in one or more areas such as separation techniques, high-resolution mass spectrometry, and lab automation. Strong fundamental knowledge in recent advances in analytical technologies is highly desired. Applicants must have effective organizational, multi-tasking, oral /written communications skills, scientific leadership, and a desire to conduct research and publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Enable discovery partner groups with advanced analytical methods
  • Represent the discovery analytical research group in project teams
  • Solve challenging problems by application of one or more analytical technique, including but not limited to, liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, ion chromatography, size exclusion chromatography, two dimensional techniques and high-resolution mass spectrometry.
  • Explore and develop new technologies applicable to the field of measurement science.
  • Demonstrate effective multitasking, prioritization and problem-solving skills in the planning and execution of experiments.
  • The successful candidate must be able to effectively collaborate in a fast-paced, integrated, multidisciplinary team environment.-

Education Minimum Requirements:-
  • Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or related field with 3+ years of biopharmaceutical industry experience.-

Required Experience and Skills:-
  • Strong background and extensive hands-on experience in separation techniques (UPLC, cIEF, CZE, SEC, HIC, IEX), hyphenated techniques (e.g. LC-MS, GC-MS) and high-resolution mass spectrometry (structure elucidation) is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated creativity, and strong interpersonal skills.-
  • Ability to deliver complex objectives under challenging timelines in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with cross-functional interactions.

Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • Experience utilizing Python or similar for high throughput data processing.
  • Experience with high throughput analytical methods.
  • Demonstrated scientific ability through publications in peer reviewed journals and presentations in scientific conferences.
  • Understanding of biochemistry and organic chemistry.
  • Familiarity with electronic laboratory notebook applications and good documentation practices.

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Expected salary range:
$151,900.00 - $239,200.00
