GNF is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and enthusiastic leader with exceptional vision and communication skills to lead the Molecular Assemblies Lab in the Functional Genomics Group, a unit within the Biotechnology and Biotherapeutics Department. The successful candidate will lead a multi-disciplinary team focused on developing and exploiting advanced bespoke and industrialized molecular biology tools for the purposes of gene functionalization via functional genomics applications and downstream protein production. The candidate may, in addition to core duties, be expected to conduct original research aimed at process improvements, technology development, target discovery, or mechanism of action determination.

Essential Functions
• Mentor and supervise a laboratory of five direct reports in a larger Functional Genomics group
• Manage multiple technical workstreams devoted to the support of purified protein production and genome functionalization, including operational responsibilities for molecular cloning and key aspects of downstream protein production
• Interact with clients to develop, modify, resource, and prioritize Molecular Assemblies projects to drive drug discovery in a dynamic and risk-tolerant environment at multiple intervention points
• Provide critical feedback to project teams and act as a liaison between project teams and the Functional Genomics group as necessary
• Analyze the data and offer recommendations for process and product, including up- and downstream QA/QC functions for protein and genomics production
• Drive technical solutions to protein production, molecular cloning, and heterologous target expression using viral and non-viral vectors in a wide variety of cellular contexts
• Support technology development efforts for protein-protein interaction, receptor hunting and new areas of emerging interest
• Maintain complete, accurate records within the internal databases and electronic notebooksMinimum Qualifications
• PhD degree with 5+ years post-graduate professional experience that includes past supervisory experience
• Practical expertise in molecular cloning, vector engineering, eurkaryotic ectopic expression, and protein purification
• Expertise in the design, creation, and handling of lentiviral, retroviral, adenoviral, and/or AAV vectors for ectopic expression
• Demonstrated ability for troubleshooting molecular assemblies and protein expression and production workflows
• Operational familiarity with molecular cloning, sequencing, genetics, genomics, HTS, or proteomics analysis software tools such as Spotfire, Jump Genomics, Vector NTI, LaserGene
• Demonstrated record of working in multi-disciplinary, dynamic teams
• A willingness and ability to help others, win as a team, juggle resources to achieve tactical and strategic success, and to recognize, resource, and prioritize new opportunities as they arise

Preferred Qualifications
• A background in the creation or study of mammalian cell models of disease or pathways
• An understanding of gene and protein function as relates to drug discovery, mode of action determination, and forward target discovery
• Experience in the use of laboratory automation
