Responsible for federal income tax compliance and technology matters for all US business units in close cooperation with state and local and tax audit specialists, transfer pricing and planning teams, business units, finance organization and IT.
Direct the preparation and review process of complex federal income tax returns, for the Novartis US consolidation, including consolidated calculations and accompanying attachments, eliminations, estimate and extension payment calculations.
Support business unit specific tax matters including tax accounting, federal, state and international income tax compliance, tax audits
Provide support for BD&L/M&A and business transactions such as acquisition integration and divestment analysis (e.g., E&P, tax basis and carve out financials).
Identify and support data, digital and process innovation/initiatives/projects including process design/enhancements, software implementations, application of technology best practices and analysis of proposed tax law changes and the impacts to the technology side of the provision and compliance processes, in close collaboration with SALT, Audit, and Tax Planning sub-teams, and key business partners.
Provide Tax Software maintenance, administration, and system configuration, design new applications and enhancements to existing applications and organize and lead application user testing in conjunction with IT.
Support communication between Tax and IT relating to technical tax and systems concepts on key projects and other initiatives.
Contribution to Novartis tax strategy through timely, accurate and compliant tax compliance including initiation, execution and risk management.
Accurate recording of Novartis US tax expenses and liabilities.
Proactive design, documentation and implementation of clear, efficient tax processes.
Business unit tax support including reporting that is timely, accurate and complete.
Contribution to the development and retention of best in class corporate direct income tax team.Bachelor's degree in accounting and/or CPA. Master's degree in Accounting or MS in Tax preferred.
English, other languages a plus
10 years experience in income tax accounting, compliance/consolidated returns with large public accounting firm and/or large public company tax department; 5+ years experience managing staff. tax technology experience and leading projects for integration of digital efficiencies a plus.
Significant knowledge of US corporate taxes and consolidated return rules.
Strong income tax accounting knowledge IFRS/local statutory.
Extensive project management experience.
Experience with leadership, management, and written and oral communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional and cross-border teams.
High proficiency in OneSource software and in Microsoft Excel and proficient in SAP and other MS Office applications.
