Main Responsibilities

Scope:

•Engineer responsible for the overall reliability and efficiency of the HVAC, mechanical and critical Utility systems in support of a 24/7 Biologics manufacturing operation. Ensure critical utilities are running at optimal efficiency and reliability and are within GMP compliance at all times.
•This position is to provide HVAC/Mechanical engineering support for systems such as HVAC, cooling towers and chillers. This person will be the site SME for management of ozone depletion substances.
•Other responsibilities is to provide engineering support for other Critical utilities such as, hot water package units, and heat exchangers.
•This position is responsible for ensuring proper preventative and predictive maintenance routines are performed on these systems to ensure the highest level of reliability at a reasonable cost.
•This position is responsible for implementing operational improvement to these utility systems to reduce energy consumption.
•Responsible engineer for some utility systems
•Direct non-exempt trades personnel
•Provide system operational KPI's to department head.
•Interact with other departments including Engineering, Facilities, Manufacturing, Validation & Quality Assurance
•Engineering and project management skills within a GMP facility
•Development of maintenance routines and SOP's.

Knowledge:

•Very good knowledge in Utility Equipment Theory of Operation.
•Very good understanding of RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance) principles.
•Some automation and programming background/training. Programming experience with Allen Bradley PLC's and DCS control systems
•Thorough understanding of cGMP's and how they relate to HVAC and Clean Utility Systems Maintenance and Operations.

Problem Solving:

•Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
•Will work on assignments that are complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are
•required in resolving problems and implementing preventative actions.
•Excellent technical troubleshooting skills. Able to pinpoint system problems to specific root causes.

Freedom to Act:

•Assignments are received in task-orientated terms. Provides direction to other technical personnel using established policies and precedents. Manages various outside contractors and service providers.
•LIAISON: Liaise with peer engineers. Work with Quality assurance to ensure proper change control for changes to validated systems

Impact:

•Ensures that projects are completed on schedule following established procedures and schedules. Erroneous decisions or recommendations or failure to achieve results might cause regulatory observations and dramatically impact plant approvals and delays in program schedules

Interpersonal Communication:

•Majority of liaison is on internal basis with other engineers/technicians and with supervisors at equivalent level or one level higher. Liaison normally involves specific phases of a project or maintenance activity.
•Contacts are frequent with individuals representing other departments, and/or representing outside organizations. Contacts with outside contractors and vendors is frequent. Contacts with Area management and senior management are occasional.
•Good verbal and written communication skills are critical for job.

Education/Experience:

•High School diploma, technical school
•Certificate of Completion at a 2 years technical school or, High School diploma with plant or equipment maintenance.
•Or Military training and experience in relevant field.
•10+ years of experience in an industrial or commercial plant or building maintenance
•Preference will be given to biotech/pharmaceutical experience.
•Preference to licensed electrician and/or HVAC/Refrigeration contracting.
