ROLE

The Associate Director of Agency and Resource Management - Global Communications (based in either Kenilworth, NJ or Upper Gwynedd PA) is an integral part of the Planning and Operations team. This individual will work across Global Communications to drive standardization in the planning process for how Merck selects and partners with its external agencies. Partners with key content owners / decision makers to determine how creative/content needs will be supported (via in-house agency, Merck Creative Studios, or outside agency). This role will also be responsible for the annual planning process in terms of creation of scope of work with major agency partners. Additionally, this individual will work with partners across Global Communications to determine the best way to resource high-impact and tactical projects.

PRIMARY ACTIVITIES



Drive continuous optimization of external agency roster


Conduct ongoing stakeholder activities to understand global communications agency partner needs


Facilitate RFP process and agency selection model in partnership with procurement


Drive the creation of an annual planning process to execute on scopes of work, MSAs, etc. in partnership with procurement and colleagues


Issue management and resolution between agency and global communications colleagues to ensure a best-in-class working relationship


Partner across GC to ensure proper agency partners are in place aligned with global communications deliverables


Assign tasks and action items to in-house agency


Work closely with the agency management team to anticipate agency needs based on historical knowledge and planning within the global communications group


Partner with integrated communicators to identify upcoming needs and strategize on resourcing approach, either through agency partners or with in house talent, ensuring projects are resourced appropriately


Eliminate redundancy and execute cost savings across the business by looking across at the capabilities existing within the organization

SKILLS


Communications strategy - well versed in the creation of integrated, 360 degree communications/marketing campaigns


Agency expertise - understands and is experienced in working with agencies of all types, understands how to select partners based on their area of expertise


Interpersonal influence - effectively builds relationships within the organization to help achieve business outcomes. Leads business partners and staff and achieves consensus and results even without positional authority.


Project Management - Develops schedules and budgets and effectively tasks people. Can handle complexities in queue among multiple channels, content creators, and/or agencies.


Strategic Agility - Demonstrates resilience, flexibility, and a willingness to explore different paths to achieve an outcome and adjusts quickly and efficiently to new circumstances.


Ability to d rive agency strategy, selection & governance


Ability to work cross-functionally with Procurement and Finance to drive financial management, contracts & payments


Familiarity with optimized ratecards & lead evaluation process

QUALIFICATIONS



Bachelor's degree required, MBA preferred


5+ years of experience in public relations/communications/marketing/procurement


Candidates should have significant experience partnering with agencies and have a solid understanding of the marketing/communications planning process


Ability to confidently lead and provide expert counsel to support the goals of the business


Ability to work successfully across teams and reporting structures in a matrix environment


Strong negotiating skills


Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills


Exceptional budget management skills


Ability to manage pressure, meet deadlines and monitor and evaluate results is essential
