The technician will be required to perform routine calibration, preventive maintenance and repairs to instrument systems and components of laboratory equipment, production equipment, central utilities and building management systems. Coordinate the scheduling of calibrations with the area management to minimize disruption of the manufacturing. Troubleshoot problems in the event of instrument failure and be able to recommend parts needed for the effective repair. Will be required to assist manufacturing and facilities personnel in troubleshooting and diagnostic analysis on process and utility equipment. Will work on assignments that are complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations for completion.
Technician may lead troubleshooting and repair efforts to return equipment to normal operation.
Additional Job Functions:
•Use basic hand tools.
•Utilize precision measuring instruments.
•Read electronic schematics.
•Must be able to read, write and utilize drawings, mathematics, handbook formulas.
•Practical knowledge of Allen Bradley (AB) process control systems (PCS).
•Some minor configuration of PCS parameters
•Read mechanical schematics and piping diagrams , P&IDs
•Must be able to work in a clean room environment.
•Candidate must possess computer skills, be detail oriented and be able to complete any required documentation in a timely manner.
•Must have ability to communicate both orally and written in a clear and concise manner.
•Will have the ability to organize and schedule, and oversee work performed by Facility Technicians.
•Insures good documentation practices and that training requirements are met.
•Extensive knowledge in specialized functions. A wide and comprehensive acquaintance with instrumentation and calibration principles and practices. Understanding of, both general and specific aspects of the job and their practical application to complex problems and situations.
•Very good knowledge of Instrumentation Buss technologies and protocols, Fieldbuss, Profibuss, DeviceNet, OPC.
•Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
•Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Freedom to Act:
•Minimal supervision. Work may be done without established procedures.
•Errors are very difficult to detect and would normally require significant expenditures to resolve.
•Contacts are frequent with individuals representing outside organizations, and/or individuals of significant importance within the company. Contacts involve planning and preparation of the communications, require skill, tact, persuasion and/or negotiation to accomplish the objectives of the communication.
•Frequent contact will include area/equipment management, to report equipment status and to coordinate maintenance activities.
•Contact with senior management is common.
•Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary for job.
•Good planning and project management skills are necessary, May direct and plan the work for other non-exempt employees.
•Certificate of Completion at a 2 years technical school or High School diploma with experience in instrumentation.
•Or Military training and experience in relevant field.
•10+ years of experience with majority of experience within the biotech/pharmaceutical industry
