Lead and set the strategic direction for an insights-driven analytics and research team that proactively helps drive growth and shape the future of Novartis Pharma

This role is a player coach role having direct accountability for a strategic brand and oversight and leadership of a portfolio of Pharma products. In partnership with Franchise Head, Global Brand Teams and Global PLS Leadership this individual will take a leading role in shaping franchise strategy. Through this strategic understanding and thought leadership this individual will define the key business questions and challenges facing our business that are critical to achieving business objectives. Translation of these questions/challenges into actionable insights and analytics initiatives is essential enable the development of recommendations and solutions so that business and brand strategies can be developed to meet performance expectations. In addition this individual will use their networks, influencing skills, and communication skills to help drive alignment of key executive leaders (US EC's and above) and achieve business objectives.

This individual will be the Insights & Analytics (I&A) expert for their respective franchise and brands, providing problem solving leadership to enable analytic-based solutions to business questions and challenges. This individual is recognized as an Insights & Analytics (I&A) expert within the US & Global PLS organization, the Innovative Medicines Organization, and by external peer organizations. She/he is able to provide problem solving leadership to enable analytic-based solutions to business questions and challenges in situations requiring new/innovative approaches. This person will lead the delivery of all integrated insights (market research), analytics and forecasting services for the brand and franchise teams to address business questions ('the whats'), identify insights (the 'so-whats'), suggest ideas (the 'what nexts') to maximize brand/business growth/sales most profitably. This person may also have hands-on responsibility for 1-2 primary research/analytics areas for the business based on business priorities.

The role will also develop SI&A and SFE BP talent and have all people management responsibilities (hires, performance management etc.)

Provide franchise and brand specific I&A leadership: Recognized as an internal "Thought Leader" and expert in the field of Insights & Analytics as evidence by their participation in key strategic projects and involvement in key external advisory panels. The key problem solving partner to the relevant franchises and brands by establishing strong relationships with key business leaders and partnering with them in understanding their unique business challenges. Translate the business needs into actionable analytic-focused initiatives to provide solutions and/or recommendations to enable the business excellence.

Shape the vision for and lead the integrated I&A plan for a business/franchise: Develop a vision, and priorities for the I&A team based on needs of the BU, I&A vision, input from team and stakeholders; generate momentum for a shared vision and roadmap with the team.

Coach, guide and manage I&A work streams: Ensure operations team focuses on critical business questions, drives towards strategic and synthesized insights, and suggests ideas and recommendations that enable better decision-making for the business. Work with the Head of Business Analytics to coach the operations team to prioritize work and enable effective support by our associates in Hyderabad.

Advise, guide and steward strategic I&A work streams: (Level II) Operate as a thought leader/partner with the SI&A operations team to foster the development of creative solutions for complex & emerging analytic needs where established principles do not exist(e.g. integrating predictive analytics/machine learning into existing business processes to enhance the effectiveness of sales and marketing). Solve critical business questions by guiding team to deliver strategic and synthesized insights which enable better decision-making for the business. Work with the Head of Business Analytics to coach the operations team to prioritize work and enable effective support by our associates in Hyderabad.

Lead periodic 'deep-dives' for the BU: (Level I) Lead the synthesis of insights/analytics on a periodic basis (e.g., quarterly, once in six months). Work with operations team on pulling together the story, 'so-what's, 'what-nexts'. Syndicate with key stakeholders prior to discussion.

Lead strategic business initiatives and sell recommendations to PEC/ECN decision makers: (Level II) Structure and Lead the strategic business initiatives (e.g., incremental significant investment requiring divisional/enterprise approval). Lead operations team on developing the story, 'so-what's, 'what-nexts', business case and recommendation. Syndicate with key senior level stakeholders (Executive Committee & Global) and reconcile competing/conflicting feedback prior to discussion/review.

Provide hands-on support to the BU: Provide hands-on support to the BU on a specific brand(s) or topics, ad hoc requests or targeted analysis. As needed, play the role of a 'player' or a 'doer', not just an integrator/director of work from the team.

Steward Insights and data spend (market research budget, data spend) for the BU: Maintain transparency into market research budgets, where and how resources are deployed, areas of improvement/productivity, and impact. Also prioritize data spend (current and requested), challenge areas for continuous improvement.

Maintain full compliance with internal and external guidelines: Stay current on external and internal guidelines, develop training and approaches for Integrated Team (where needed) to understand and fully comply with compliance requirements. Partner with relevant interval departments (e.g., E&C)

Work across Novartis: Partner with other Novartis commercial teams and business partners (e.g., on US cross-divisional initiatives, understanding how they generate/implement insights), departments (e.g., sourcing, Finance, Managed Markets); develop counseling and working relationships across departments and with Brand team members

Functional Thought Leadership across Novartis(Level II): Represent US SI&A as a on globally sponsored initiatives involving global PLS leadership and BU leadership to drive strategic capability development for the enterprise

Integrate and communicate franchise I&A impact to PLS leadership, across other functional areas, with senior leadership: For example, develop succinct senior executive communications on impact (e.g., questions addressed, ideas generated, innovative tools, approaches; areas of impact)
Bachelor's Degree in Science (e.g., Biology, Medical, Biomedical, Bio Engineering), Business, Statistics/Operations Research/Mathematics, Market Research. MBA preferred

Background in social sciences, anthropology or other related field that bring a different perspective and insights preferred

Experience in Brand Marketing and/or other Business areas preferred (e.g., Managed Markets, Sales, Sales Ops)

Minimum 12+ years of overall pharmaceutical industry experience, majority in the US, including specialty pharma experience (injected, infused, biologics and/or institutional products)

Minimum 5 years in marketing and/or marketing research and/or analytics or related experience involving: framing of strategic questions to be solved, generating insights (primary research or secondary analytics), synthesizing implications, driving for practical/actionable solutions, measuring impact

Experience launching products in the US (preferred)

Cross-functional experience preferred (e.g., managed markets, pricing, medical, analytics, sales, marketing)

Solid understanding of research methods, experimental design (quantitative and qualitative) and specialty pharma, hospital data sources

Solid understanding of analytics, databases (e.g., IMS, APLD) in the pharma industry

Minimum 3 years doing analytics in pharma

Strategic thinking

Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to translate a complex reports and analysis into simple 'business speak' and present results to internal clients up to the executive level

Business Acumen - ability to connect the dots and generate insights, prioritize business questions and recommendations

Learning agility: ability to pick up new trends and learn quickly

Demonstrated partnering and influencing skills, stakeholder management, project management, people management

Business and technical problem solving

Position will be filled commensurate with experience.
