PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Facilities Maintenance and Engineering(FME) Directorate is responsible for laboratory space, administrative space,infrastructure, campus landscape, planning, design, maintenance andconstruction management at Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research.

KEYROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The Electrical Engineer III will be responsiblefor:

  • Designing electrical distribution, lighting,motor control, communication, networking, instrumentation and controls forlaboratory renovations and facilities improvements
  • Providing technical guidance to contractors,A&Es, scientific personnel and maintenance shops
  • Reviewing A/E plans and specifications
  • Ensuring compliance with engineering practicesand established laws, codes, regulations, and standards, including the NIHDesign Requirements Manual
  • Performing on-site technical inspections ofequipment and systems to ensure design and specification compliance


Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you mustminimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from anaccredited college/ university in engineering according to the Council forHigher Education Accreditation (CHEA). (Additional qualifying experience may besubstituted for the required education). Foreign degrees must be evaluated forU.S. equivalency.
  • In addition to the educational requirements, aminimum of four (4) years of experience in engineering design
  • Experience designing using AutoCAD software
  • Experience in electrical design of buildingrenovations and campus utilities
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a securityclearance


PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with thesedesired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Experience in laboratory construction andfacilities maintenance
  • Familiarity with scientific/laboratoryequipment and experience in the design of BSL2 laboratories
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or Engineer inTraining


Expected Competencies:

  • Ability to multi task and stay organized in afast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills with all levels ofpersonnel through written and oral presentations
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate withmanagement
