ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION:
  • For Service, Technical Support, Marketing & Sales Roles: Additional compensation is available through either an Incentive and/or Commission Plan.
  • For Employees who reside in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and California, additional compensation is offered through a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA).

POSITION SUMMARY:

The individual in this position is responsible for a wide variety of service related support functions including, but not limited to, the repair, maintenance, and installation of assigned Biotech products. The implied Biotech products are but not limited to; AXIMA MALDI, MALDI 7090, MALDI 8020, PPSQ, PERFINITY LC, LABNIRS, LIGHTNIRS, IM-LAYER and CLAM/C2MAP. Additionally, responsibilities include the training and support of field and less experienced personnel as well as other related duties that may be assigned from time to time.

This position is responsible for the repair, maintenance and installation of assigned Biotech products sold by Shimadzu Scientific Instruments anywhere within our market area as required.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • The repair, maintenance, and installation of those products sold by Shimadzu Scientific Instruments or its representatives anywhere within the company's market area.
  • Providing technical training to customers, service and technical support personnel.
  • Accurate documentation and reporting of all repairs and product failures and when applicable providing design change and improvement recommendations.
  • Developing preventative maintenance procedures for assigned products as required.
  • The review of parts usage and recommendation of repair parts stocking levels for assigned products.
  • The maintenance and control of repair parts inventories within the position's assigned region in accordance with the administrative policies as defined by the Service Center at corporate.
  • Providing customers and field personnel with necessary telephone technical support, repair parts shipments and documentation required to effect instrument repairs, maintenance, and installations.
  • Must travel by air and drive as required.
  • Must travel overnight, as the position requires
  • Accurate and timely submission of all necessary paperwork and reports.

    This position's primary focus is to provide quality, efficient service to our customers and to support the other Service, Technical Support, and Sales & Marketing staff in performance of the same.

    PROBLEM SOLVING REQUIREMENTS:

    Incumbent must be proficient at effectively and efficiently troubleshooting and repairing instrument problems, performing installations, and providing, when necessary, customer and staff training.

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    An associate's degree in Electrical Engineering or Technology is required, a bachelors within a Life Science discipline is highly preferred. Incumbent must have at least three years of field or in-house instrumentation repair experience (or the equivalent similar product) is required.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    None

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Frequent lifting or with other means for movement of instrumentation/parts. May include frequent bending, standing, stooping, walking, talking, sitting/driving for long periods of time and pulling/pushing of instrumentation/parts can also be expected. Incumbent must be able to lift up to 20 pounds routinely throughout the work day. Incumbent must have use of hand to finger senses, in order to use and grasp hand tools to repair instrumentation. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

    SAFETY/PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

    Position is required to maintain proper housekeeping and safety standards in particular to lab safety protocol. Proper use of personal protective equipment and safety devices as required by the Corporate Safety Document policies and procedures and/or customer dictated policy.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    This position is home based and will require daily travel to customer locations and/or the regional offices. The position requires the incumbent to have the ability to work alone on projects, as well as, collaborating as part of team. Incumbent may work at several different work sites during the course of a business day in order to support the needs of Shimadzu customers.
